INDIANAPOLIS (OSV News) — From the first moments of the final nighttime revival session at Lucas Oil Stadium July 20, an electricity coursed through the air with an intensity surpassing all the prior events of the National Eucharistic Congress. Grammy-nominated Catholic musician Matt Maher led the crowd — estimated at greater than 50,000 — in […]
At the founding, perhaps only as few as 10 percent of Americans were church members. So, what happened in the early 1800s, and what might we learn from it today?
“The last words Jesus said before He ascended into Heaven were a directive to be witnesses to our neighbors and the nations, to the ends of the earth,” says Ellen Lauer, Global Missions Director at First Baptist Arnold. “A church that isn’t striving to provide or support opportunities to accomplish this directive, simply isn’t being obedient.” Toward that end First Arnold sent a 12-person team composed largely of Missouri Baptist University (MoBap) nursing students in June to the African nation of Liberia to present the Gospel, hold a medical clinic, and help train midwives and church planters.

More than 100 spotlights trained on a large, golden monstrance […]
There has not been an OSV News without the 10th National Eucharistic Congress. From our inception in 2022, we knew that this event would be a hallmark for the Catholic Church in the United States and for our coverage in July 2024. We planned, we wrote, we interviewed. We spoke to young people who sacrificed […]

Not going to Indy? I’m sorry I won’t see you there. But take heart. You aren’t missing anything truly important. Don’t get me wrong, the event is worth attending. There’ll be huge crowds, stacks of speakers and a few very nicely choreographed moments to remember. People who do go will be buoyed by old friends […]
Synodality makes for a better Eucharist, and the Eucharist creates and nourishes synodality. Both are about communion, participation and mission. But the Eucharistic Revival has a completely different focus.
(OSV News) — “Ten ingredients” make for a “recipe of Eucharistic revival,” including greater focus on preparing for and participating in Mass, as well as integrating prayer and evangelization into daily life, said Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone of San Francisco. The archbishop shared his thoughts in a homily at the July 18 celebration of a […]

Michael R. Heinlein What a disappointment it’s been, though unsurprising, to see Catholics offering negative commentary of this summer’s National Eucharistic Congress in the US. Now, I’m not an idealist. Some of the criticism can be warranted. Missteps have been made at the local and national levels. I firmly believe that deeper Eucharistic faith, more…

Last week most of the OSV News team was at the National Eucharistic Congress: The general consensus I’ve heard from them is that it was a powerful, life-changing event and the Holy Spirit is at work. But if you’re like me and stayed home, how do you know what happened? If you’re short on time, […]
